Kim modeled for the new lookbook and starred in a series of commercials, where he lounged inside a vintage convertible while presenting the latest trends in outdoor apparel and sneakers fashion. Like Us on Facebook One of his most stylish combinations included the $120 Vintage Wool Jacket with subtle varsity stripes and the chunky $70 Spaghetti Black/White Basketball sneakers. According to retail chain Finish Line, "The Fila Stackhouse Spaghetti Basketball Shoes are a must-have addition to your retro hoops sneaker collection. With a uniquely designed upper and the distinction of being worn by Jerry Stackhouse of the Brooklyn Nets, these OG Fila sneakers combine old-school hoops style and quality on-court performance." The sneakers were previously worn by Nine Muses member Kyungri during the group's April photoshoot for The Star. | Review: Dal Shabet Continue K-Pop Girl Groups' Current Trend ... Posted: 17 Apr 2015 03:37 PM PDT Everywhere you turn in lately, it seems, from miss A to Minah of Girl's Day, from Red Velvet to Brown Eyed Girls, K-pop girl groups are mixing it up more than ever. Hallyu may have attracted an international audience in recent years by mixing 1980s R&B with 1990s electronic music and the production of the boy bands of the 2000s. But this year, South Korean producers seem to be incorporating increasing shades of 1950s cool jazz, 1960s soul, 1970s funk and 1980s electro. Disco, rock and electric blues are playing a bigger role than ever. Like Us on Facebook One prime example of a K-pop act that's never been afraid of a little genre bending is the six-member girl group Dal Shabet. The group's new single "Joker," released Wednesday as part of the "Joker Is Alive" album (said to be inspired by Batman foe and Joker compatriate Harley Quinn), blends a burningly in-sync, retro-sounding horn section with Britney Spears-style crooning, Katy Perry-esque piercing high notes and a programmed drum part that would make 1990s dance diva Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite stand up and hit the dance floor. But the influences in play on "Joker," co-written by band member Subin, are certainly not strictly of the Western persuasion. There are aspects of numerous boundary-breaking K-pop groups that have come before them in Dal Shabet's sound. Lee Hyori's fetishistic love of the golden era of Hollywood and the classic era of swing jazz, 4Minute's unabashed authority on the mic, even the innovative backing vocal techniques of Girls' Generation are all reflected in the sound of Dal Shabet. But there is something more going on here as well. Maybe it's the group and their production and songwriting team's willingness to throw in whatever works from the genres above, with no regard to whether it's too jazzy or funky or bluesy. Or, maybe it's just that the list of acceptable mainstream K-pop influences just got a little bit longer. | K-Pop Crossover: Diplo Confirms Single With 2NE1's CL, Riff Raff ... Posted: 17 Apr 2015 01:06 PM PDT It may not be her official US debut, but 2NE1's Lee "CL" Chaerin will be seen once again alongside producer-DJ Diplo in a new single this summer. Recently, Diplo discussed his upcoming projects with iHeartRadio. The 36-year-old had nothing but compliments for the K-pop rapper regarding their collaboration together. Like Us on Facebook "CL's album, I'm working really closely on," said Diplo. "She's a Korean pop star who sings and raps. She's on Skrillex and my 'Dirty Vibe' song. She's just awesome. I'm so proud of the stuff we did. She's really cool. We have a song coming out next month with me, her, Riff Raff and OG Maco, and it's a rap song called 'Dr. Pepper.' It's really cool." Back in December, a snippet of "Dr. Pepper" was reportedly leaked through Diplo's Snapchat video, which featured a female rapper is more than likely to be CL. Last month, CL and Diplo collaborated once again, this time during a live performance at the annual Ultra Music Festival (UMF) which took place in Miami, Florida. The event marked the first major music stage appearance for CL when she made a guest appearance during Skrillex's set. "CL staged a collaboration performance with Skrillex, Diplo and P. Diddy who stood on UMF's finale stage as headliners," read the record label YG Entertainment blog. "As many as 100,000 people were present at the festival and more than 6.87 million viewers around the world watched it through live-broadcasting." Diplo's work will next be heard in a new album by Major Lazer set to release on June 1, titled "Peace is the Mission." "There are a lot of cool features," he said. "There's Ellie Goulding, [which] is the next single. There's Ariana Grande, which people have heard already. There's Travi$ Scott, Pusha T and a group called Wild Belle, who is like a really cool new rock group." © 2015 KpopStarz. All rights reserved. Do not reproduce without permission. |
